Damage feints and as Elric raises his hands in defense, Damage changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

We've been hearing good reports from Elric's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Donald Diaz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kurikka.
Kurikka fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Donald Diaz on the side of the head.
Donald Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Donald Diaz gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Kurikka gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Donald Diaz is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fokin has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hanzzle finds it's way round the side to connect with Fokin's head.
Hanzzle connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fokin's hands.
Fokin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hanzzle defends it nicely.
Fokin throws a lazy right hand but Hanzzle sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Hanzzle lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Fokin has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Fokin and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Fokin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hanzzle was well out of range. Poor timing from Fokin.
Hanzzle looks to score with a jab to the body but Fokin is just out of range.
Hanzzle's coach down at Meats Slaughter House was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Hanzzle's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Hanzzle pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hanzzle uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fokin.
We've been hearing reports that Fokin has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Fokin walks forward, straight into a front kick from Hanzzle.
Fokin throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hanzzle sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Hanzzle stuffs the takedown attempt from Fokin. Fokin gets slowly back to his feet.

Fokin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Fokin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hanzzle with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Hanzzle is doing well to control the position and prevent Fokin from advancing to side control.
Hanzzle is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Fokin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hanzzle's head.

Fokin is looking for a kimura but Hanzzle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fokin to get the leverage.
Hanzzle is controlling Fokin's trapped leg to prevent Fokin from advancing to side control.

Fokin is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Hanzzle still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Hanzzle has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
You can see the frustration on Fokin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

I wouldn't like to be where Fokin is right now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hanzzle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fokin keeps working.
Fokin tries to bench press Hanzzle off him but Hanzzle keeps the position.
Fokin can't do much from the bottom here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Hanzzle will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Yuri Hanzzle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fokin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Georgy Fokin will probably get the nod.

Hanzzle fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Fokin.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hanzzle does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Hanzzle has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fokin is working away from the top position though.
Georgy Fokin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hanzzle is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Fokin is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Hanzzle is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Fokin off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
