Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Chev Chelios!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Filippo Di Vaio!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Di Vaio dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Di Vaio changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chelios tries to avoid it but Di Vaio manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chelios to the ground. Chelios escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A little feinted left hand from Chelios on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Di Vaio moves out of range as Chelios strikes.
Chelios misses with a looping right.
Chelios throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Di Vaio bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Chelios's head.
Chelios connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Di Vaio momentarily.
Di Vaio's coach down at Super SmashBros. was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Di Vaio's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Chelios tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Di Vaio paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Chelios blocks the body kick.
Di Vaio throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Chelios is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Di Vaio.
Di Vaio with a poor takedown

and Chelios counters with a head kick that drops Di Vaio to the mat! Di Vaio scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Di Vaio is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Di Vaio moves into range and clinches up with Chelios.
Di Vaio is still on wobbly legs! Can Chelios finish him?
Chelios throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Di Vaios head.

Di Vaio breaks the clinch.
A punch lands to the side of Chelios 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Di Vaio misses with a hook
and Chelios counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Chev Chelios!
Chev Chelios retains his welterweight title!
An out of breath Chev Chelios thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
