Undercard bout

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Solomon Wayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Stone might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to the beginning. The key to victory for Jack Stone has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Solomon Wayne!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wayne shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stone pinned against the cage. Stone gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Stone misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Wayne.
Wayne tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stone sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wayne somewhat.
It looked like Stone was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Wayne.

Wayne has closed the distance and engaged Stone in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wayne's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stone pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Wayne back to the cage. Stone follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Wayne changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Stone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Stone has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Stone on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Stone tries to get out of the position.
Wayne is working Stone over with some ground and pound from side control.

Wayne tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wayne has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wayne connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Stone some visible discomfort.

Wayne tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stone parries the strikes from Wayne easily there. Wayne is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Stone to escape.

Wayne stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Wayne fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stone to the ground. Wayne is now in Stone's guard.
Wayne has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Stone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wayne on the ground.

Wayne has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Stone should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Wayne has tightened it up now! Stone should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

I was talking to Papin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lucas Hood!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Lou da Vinci and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fist tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hood was well out of range. Poor timing from Fist.
Fifth Fist seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fist darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Fist misses with an uppercut. Hood saw that one coming.
Fist cracks Hood with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Hood shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fist but Fist pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fist lands a jab to the head.

Fist is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hood.
It seemed like Hood was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Fist lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Lucas Hood is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fist takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Fifth Fist is winning the standup battle so far.
Hood cracks Fist's jaw with two stiff jabs then ducks low and throws a soul-severing right uppercut to the mouth!! Fist slumps to the ground with blood on his lips. The referee steps in before Hood can do further damage! This one is done, son!
