Wells wants to take the fight to the mat but Lowe manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Wells drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lowe gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Lowe tries to throw a body punch but Wells avoids it by throwing Lowe back against the cage.

Wells tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lowe manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Wells looks up at the clock and then as Lowe takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wells smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wells fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Lowe is not content to let Wells control the position.
Lowe tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wells wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Wells lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Curtis Lowe.
I think Lowe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Balls lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jones has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jones and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Balls napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Balls tries to bench press Jones off him but Jones keeps the position.
Jones cracks Balls with an elbow. That is naaassty.
You can see the frustration on Balls's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Balls really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
