Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Arnoldo Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, RK Mate!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mate shoots in and bounces Thomas off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mate is standing up over Thomas. Thomas looks to escape but Mate dives into side control.
Mate looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!


Mate working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Thomas gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas is looking to escape.
Mate seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thomas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mate lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Thomas circles away quickly and effectively.

Thomas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mate, pushing him back against the cage.

Mate is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Thomas.

Mate is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Thomas gets his way!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mate preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Thomas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mate, up you get!
Thomas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mate swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mate looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
RK Mate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mate has taken the fight to the clinch.
Thomas jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mate walks away with a smile on his face. Thomas gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Thomas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Mate is defending well.

Mate is fighting off a takedown attempt but Thomas is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mate to the mat. Mate regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Thomas decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Thomas throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mate swats away the attempt to clinch by Thomas.
Thomas buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Mate tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Thomas wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Thomas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mate moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mate! But no joy.
Thomas throws a nice looking combination but Mate bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Mate dives in and scores a takedown into Thomas's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Thomas wants to stand but Mate is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Thomas is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Thomas wants to stand up but Mate is controlling him.

Thomas wants to get up but he can't break Mate's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thomas distracts Mate with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Mate wants to get back to his feet but Thomas passes into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mate missing with punches from the bottom.
Mate is looking to get back to full guard here but Thomas has managed to pass to side control instead.
Mate takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
RK Mate has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Arnoldo Thomas is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
