PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charley Hanagan (ranked 24 p4p, 5 weight class) and Tank Ispa (ranked 13 p4p, 3 weight class). Hanagan's entrance music is Guilty Until Proven Innocent. A fine choice. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charley Hanagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Tank Ispa!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ispa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hanagan napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ispa laying and praying for a moment but Hanagan takes advantage and regains half guard.
Ispa is controlling the pace.
Hanagan wants to get back to full guard.

Ispa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hanagan defends it well.
Hanagan is staying active underneath Ispa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We've been hearing good reports from Hanagan's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hanagan looking for submissions off his back.

Ispa is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hanagan has managed to free his arm - good work.
Hanagan is pressing down on Ispa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Ispa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hanagan's guard.
Hanagan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ispa's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ispa's back!
Ispa is covering up but some of the strikes from Hanagan are getting through and doing damage.

Hanagan has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Ispa trying to control but not successfully.
Hanagan is hanging on to Ispa's back as he tries to escape.
Ispa is taking damage to the body and head.
Hanagan avoiding Ispa 's attempts to control his hands.

Ispa defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.

Ispa tries to escape but Hanagan has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Hanagan looking to break Ispa's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Ispa remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Hanagan will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Hanagan is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Hanagan gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Hanagan gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Hanagan apologises and we restart here on the feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ispa throws a head kick but Hanagan moves out of range.
Ispa cracks Hanagan with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Ispa misses with a hook. Hanagan ducked under it nicely.
Ispa misses with a looping right.
Hanagan listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Ispa throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hanagan tries to counter by clinching up but Ispa breaks away and moves out of range.

Ispa is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hanagan.
Hanagan looks to score with a jab to the body but Ispa is just out of range.
Hanagan connects with a single shot there.
Ispa tries to close the distance and clinch but Hanagan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hanagan attempts a counter takedown but Ispa avoids it well and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ispa throws a front kick that sends Hanagan stumbling back into the cage.
Hanagan scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Ispa connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hanagan. Hanagan circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Hanagan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ispa manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ispa shoots in looking for a takedown. Hanagan tries to sprawl out of it but Ispa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hanagan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ispa shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Hanagan wants to clinch.
Ispa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hanagan defends well and Ispa ends up having to push Hanagan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Ispa takes a jab right on the kisser.
Hanagan connects with a body shot that sends Ispa's belly button to the back.
Hanagan takes a swing at Ispa's ribcage but misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hanagan closes the distance but Ispa moves to the side
and Ispa makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Ispa lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hanagan has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hanagan and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Ispa.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ispa loads up on a big right hand but Hanagan slips the punch.
A big right from Ispa misses.
Ispa gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Hanagan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A low kick from Ispa misses
and Hanagan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ispa throws out a leg kick but Hanagan moves out of range and Ispa only half commits.
Hanagan on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Ispa looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Ispa tries to sprawl but Hanagan drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Hanagan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hanagan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ispa is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charley Hanagan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hanagan closes the distance and clinches up with Ispa, looking for a takedown. Hanagan pushes Ispa against the cage but Ispa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ispa feints and then cracks Hanagan's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hanagan down.

Ispa has closed the distance and engaged Hanagan in a clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Ispa throws an elbow but misses.
Ispa is pressed up against the cage. Hanagan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ispa down to the mat. Ispa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hanagan drops his hands momentarily and Ispa takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Ispa closes the distance and clinches.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Ispa just misses with a elbow thrown towards Hanagan's brow.
Ispa misses with a punch to the body.
Ispa lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Ispa lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Hanagan is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ispa gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charley Hanagan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hanagan tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Ispa lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Hanagan avoids a wild elbow strike from Ispa.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hanagan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hanagan struggles to land a body shot inside as Ispa controls his hands.
Ispa pushes off an throws an elbow but Hanagan leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Ispa creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Hanagan throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Ispas head.
Hanagan lands a body punch in the clinch.
Hanagan fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Ispa misses with a hook to the ribs.
Hanagan misses with a short punch on the inside.
Ispa throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hanagan misses with some punches.
Ispa pushes Hanagan back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ispa misses with an elbow strike.
Hanagan swings wildly with an uppercut but Ispa uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hanagan dodges an elbow strike from Ispa.
Ispa struggles to land a body shot inside as Hanagan controls his hands.
Ispa lands with a right to the head.
Ispa lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Hanagan or not.
Hanagan tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Tank Ispa seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Ispa lands a body shot in the clinch.
Ispa lands with a short shot to the head.
Ispa presses Hanagan against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Ispa lands with a right to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ispa lands an elbow that stopped Hanagan in his tracks for a moment.


Hanagan is rocked!
Ispa lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Oh Hanagan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Ispa looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Ispa throws a big uppercut that drops Hanagan! More strikes from Ispa and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Hanagan lies dazed against the cage as Ispa celebrates with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tank Ispa!
