CACC 73 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a bantamweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Takeya Aoki (ranked 2929 p4p, 148 weight class) and Xing Pugberg (ranked 2147 p4p, 121 weight class). Aoki kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Baka Survivor. This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 8 losses; Takeya Aoki! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 1 losses; Xing Pugberg!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.

Pugberg has taken the fight to the clinch.

Pugberg has hold of one of Aoki's legs. Aoki is fighting the takedown attempt but Pugberg gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Aoki is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pugberg defends well.

Aoki is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pugberg is aware though and is defending well.

Aoki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pugberg can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pugberg pushes down on Aoki's leg and manages to get into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aoki is refusing to be controlled, as Pugberg sits in half guard.
Aoki wants to get back to full guard but Pugberg has mounted him!

Pugberg goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Aoki turns into him and now he's in Pugberg's guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Aoki's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Aoki tries to free his leg and advance position but Pugberg is retaining full guard.

Pugberg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pugberg is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Pugberg looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Pugberg looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Aoki has picked Pugberg up and slammed him! Pugberg can't keep hold of the triangle and Aoki manages to pass to side control!

Aoki is looking to work his way around to Pugberg's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Pugberg is in all sorts of trouble here.

Aoki is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Pugberg has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Pugberg!

Pugberg is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Aoki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pugberg works his way to full guard. Good work.

Aoki got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pugberg has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Aoki has managed to get both his arms back between Pugberg's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Pugberg throws his legs up looking for a submission but Aoki uses it to pass to side control.

Aoki has hold of Pugberg's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Pugberg seems comfortable defending it but Aoki has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Pugberg is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Pugberg is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Aoki couldn't care less - he's delighted!
