Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neal Diaz (ranked 1851 p4p, 51 weight class) and Chiku Maneno (ranked 878 p4p, 22 weight class). Neal Diaz could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Chiku Maneno's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neal Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 48 - 32 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chiku Maneno!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Diaz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Diaz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Maneno wants to get back to his feet.

Diaz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maneno has escaped the position, nice work there.
Maneno is letting Diaz control him for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz throwing strikes but Maneno manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Neal Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Maneno throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it.

Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Maneno paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Maneno. No joy for Diaz on that attempt.

Diaz is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Maneno is defending well for now.
Diaz is trying to drag Maneno to the mat but Maneno just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Maneno wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Maneno breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Maneno throws a shot from downtown. Diaz moves away and avoids it.

and Maneno counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Diaz keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Maneno's efforts to push away.

Diaz turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Diaz works to advance to full mount. Maneno defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maneno really wants to buck Diaz off and get back to his feet.

Diaz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Maneno to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Maneno shrugs it off.

That was a close round but I would say that Neal Diaz will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Maneno counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Maneno throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Maneno swats away the attempt to clinch by Diaz.
Diaz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Maneno.
Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown. Maneno tries to sprawl out of it but Diaz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Maneno manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Maneno gets caught napping as Diaz dives in and scores a takedown. Maneno manages to retain guard.

Diaz lands an elbow that stopped Maneno in his tracks for a moment.
Diaz pushes off an throws an elbow but Maneno leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Maneno tries to circle away but Diaz has him pinned against the cage.

Maneno breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Diaz seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Diaz rushes Maneno and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Maneno tries to circle away but Diaz has him pinned against the cage.

Maneno's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Maneno fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Diaz manages to avoid it.

Diaz throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Maneno throws a lazy right hand but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Diaz moves into the clinch.
Diaz keeps control of Maneno as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Diaz turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Diaz manages to end up in side control.

Diaz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Maneno is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Diaz has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Diaz tries to move to mount but Maneno blocks the move with his legs.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Neal Diaz will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Diaz pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Maneno is looking to break free of the clinch but Diaz has double underhooks.
Diaz keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Maneno's efforts to push away.
Maneno avoids a wild elbow strike from Diaz.

Maneno pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Diaz lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Diaz gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Maneno regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maneno scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Neal Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Maneno ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Diaz feints a jab promting Maneno to slip. Diaz then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Maneno slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Chiku Maneno has been cut.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Diaz.
Maneno pushes Diaz away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Diaz gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Diaz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Maneno is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Diaz is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Maneno has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Chiku Maneno seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Diaz dives in and grabs Maneno's left leg, looking for a takedown. Maneno pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Neal Diaz.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
