PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Baldur Torsten (ranked 2353 p4p, 303 weight class) and John Malone (ranked 4529 p4p, 503 weight class). Torsten kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Temple of Odin. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torsten slips a jab from Malone.
Malone shoots for a takedown but Torsten saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Malone drives through with a takedown into Torsten's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Malone looking to sit in guard and control but Torsten gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Malone controls Torsten momentarily but Torsten frees himself.
Torsten advances to half guard.
Malone is looking for a sweep. Torsten is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Malone shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Torsten as he jumps to the side.
A looping hook to the body misses from Malone. Torsten does a little dance to reset his feet.

Malone now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Malone shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Torsten defends it nicely.

Baldur Torsten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Malone.
Malone lands a nice looking body shot.

Malone throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Torsten was covering up waiting for the punch and Malone finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Malone is working Torsten over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Malone postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Torsten is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Malone, into his guard.

Torsten tries to land a front kick but Malone steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

John Malone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Malone throws a solid leg kick but Torsten takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Malone.
As Malone backs away, Torsten returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

It looks like John Malone has been cut.
John Malone seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Torsten fakes the leg kick and cracks Malone in the body.
A slow jab from Malone misses its intended target.
A quick step to the side and Torsten tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Torsten blocks a jab.
Torsten looks to land a left hand but Malone moved out of range nicely.
Malone throws a big shot that misses.
Malone missing with a left hand there. Torsten was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
It looked like Torsten wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Malone goes for a double leg but Torsten avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Torsten continues to drive forward.

Malone tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Torsten paws at him with a jab and circles away.
As Malone backs away, Torsten returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Malone shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Torsten counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Malone is breathing heavily.
Malone walks into a stiff left hand from Torsten.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Torsten moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Malone might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Malone shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Torsten as he avoids it easily.

Torsten throws a leg kick but Malone sees it coming and moves out of range.

Malone closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Torsten explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Malone shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Torsten but Torsten pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And Torsten counters with a quick kick to the body but Malone blocks it.
Torsten pounces like a tiger and cracks Malone with a vicious hook! Malone is down but not out! Torsten follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
