PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cobweb Cooter (ranked 646 p4p, 82 weight class) and Great Tiger (ranked 613 p4p, 77 weight class). Cooter comes into the arena with Porch Honky blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cobweb Cooter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Great Tiger!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tiger slips a straight right by Cooter.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cooter.
Cooter lands a jab to the nose.
Tiger throws a body shot but no joy.
Cooter throws a hook to the side of Tiger's head but Tiger sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Tiger throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cooter changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Tiger keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Tiger tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Cooter takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Cooter shoots in but no luck this time.
Tiger moves forwards but Cooter connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Cooter keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tiger.
Cooter fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Tiger is out of range.
Cooter digs a good body shot into Tiger's ribs.
Cooter misses with an uppercut.
Tiger drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Cooter defends it well.
Cooter ducks under a wild hook from Tiger.
Tiger scores with a nice right hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We've been hearing reports that Cooter has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Tiger manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cooter on his heels. He'll look to pass Cooter's guard now, I'm sure.
Cooter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Tiger tries to free his leg and advance position but Cooter is retaining full guard.
Tiger has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tiger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cooter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cooter pushes Tiger off and gets back to his feet.
Cooter shoots in looking for a takedown. Tiger tries to sprawl out of it but Cooter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tiger manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cobweb Cooter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tiger bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
You can see the frustration on Cooter's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tiger goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cooter rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tiger's guard! Nice work there by Cooter!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cooter postures up in Tiger's guard and throws a big left but Tiger blocks it.

Tiger is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cooter defends well.
Cooter keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Tiger's head.
Tiger seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cooter lands a couple of elbows.
Cooter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Cooter distracts Tiger with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Tiger isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cooter stacks Tiger on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cooter!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cooter scores with a couple of short elbows.
Tiger tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Tiger gets back to half guard.
Cooter is trying to control the action in half guard but Tiger is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cobweb Cooter dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cooter looks to land a body kick but Tiger moved away.
Tiger changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Tiger lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Cooter with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Tiger to score with a decent uppercut.

A jab lands there for Tiger.
Great Tiger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tiger avoids the head kick by Cooter.
Cooter just misses with a punch to the body.
Tiger connects with a leg kick. Cooter looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Great Tiger seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cooter throws the left hand but Tiger avoids the punch easily.

Cooter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Tiger has his foot on Cooter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cooter works his way back into a safe position though.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cooter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cooter's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Cooter stands up over Tiger, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Tiger is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Cooter has his hands clasped together but Tiger extends and breaks Cooter's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Tiger.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Great Tiger!
