PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between CJ Tripp (ranked 1317 p4p, 189 weight class) and Lynn Steinheiser (ranked 2485 p4p, 316 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, CJ Tripp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lynn Steinheiser!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Topper Green and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tripp fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Steinheiser has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Tripp bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Steinheiser blocks the body kick.
And Steinheiser tries to counter it with a takedown but Tripp pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Crunch! Tripp slams his shin into Steinheiser's torso.
Tripp misses the shot to the body.
Tripp dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tripp lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Steinheiser circles away quickly and effectively.
Steinheiser tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tripp throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Steinheiser with the counter takedown but Tripp avoids it easily.
Tripp lands with an overhand left.
Steinheiser takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Tripp scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Steinheiser uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tripp.
Steinheiser is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Tripp misses with a wild combination.
Tripp scores with a decent looking hook.
Tripp misses with an uppercut.
Steinheiser fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tripp thinks about countering with a body kick.

Tripp lands a nice shot to the body.
Tripp digs a good hook to Steinheiser's body.
Tripp throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Steinheiser decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tripp's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Steinheiser loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Tripp working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Steinheiser.
Steinheiser is looking to work some ground and pound but Tripp has wrist control.

Tripp knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Steinheiser on the ground.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steinheiser accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tripp has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Tripp continues to stall.
Steinheiser trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Tripp. Steinheiser shrugs it off though.
Steinheiser takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Steinheiser tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
CJ Tripp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Steinheiser with a lazy takedown attempt
and Tripp connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Tripp uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Steinheiser is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tripp sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
CJ Tripp has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lynn Steinheiser.

Tripp tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Steinheiser was well out of range. Poor timing from Tripp.
Steinheiser changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Steinheiser takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Tripp attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

and Steinheiser counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Tripp is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Ryōzanpaku Dojo, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Steinheiser is stalling here. Tripp is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Steinheiser seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Tripp has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
You can see the frustration on Steinheiser's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

CJ Tripp dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Steinheiser closes the distance and clinches up with Tripp, looking for a takedown. Steinheiser pushes Tripp against the cage but Tripp circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tripp thuds his right hand into Steinheiser's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Tripp ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Tripp scores with a nice strike.
Nice jab there from Tripp.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tripp.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A nice inside leg kick there by Tripp. That's going to slow Steinheiser down.
Steinheiser gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Tripp.
Tripp drops Steinheiser with a naaaaasty hook - Steinheiser is in real trouble here! Tripp dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). CJ Tripp!
During a confident post fight interview, CJ Tripp thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated Lynn Steinheiser had this to say: 'I'm calling for a review of this fight! This faggot kept sticking his finger in my asshole!!! Who the hell can fight effectively while getting fingered in their asshole??? I did not like that at all ... though it felt good, but that is besides the point! A distraction is a DISTRACTION!!! '.
