The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Hakekia shoots in looking for a takedown but La Vellei manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hakekia's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jean Cristopher La Vellei seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

La Vellei has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hakekia after a bit of a struggle.
La Vellei has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hakekia avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
I was talking to Hakekia's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
La Vellei drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hakekia pulls his leg out and moves away.
