Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kazuma Kuwabara (ranked 907 p4p, 140 weight class) and Bryan Schaub (ranked 1580 p4p, 219 weight class). Kuwabara's entrance music is Kazuma Kuwabara Theme. A fine choice. Kazuma Kuwabara has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kazuma Kuwabara!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, Bryan Schaub!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuwabara pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Schaub clinches with his opponent.

Schaub is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kuwabara can't fight it off and eventually Schaub manages to take the fight to the floor. Kuwabara looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Schaub avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kuwabara will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kuwabara escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Schaub gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kuwabara has his foot on Schaub's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Schaub works his way back into a safe position though.
Kuwabara is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Schaub looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Schaub thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Schaub postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kuwabara is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Schaub, into his guard.


Kuwabara is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Schaub is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Schaub has escaped and now he's on top!

Schaub stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kuwabara swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kuwabara throws his legs up looking for a submission but Schaub uses it to pass to side control.

Schaub is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kuwabara is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Schaub is looking to take a break and control but Kuwabara is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kuwabara is trying to get back to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kuwabara sneaks back into half guard.

Schaub takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Kuwabara is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Schaub pulls his head out easily.

Schaub is keen to just control but Kuwabara is a slippery customer.

Schaub wants to work for an arm triangle but Kuwabara is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Schaub looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Schaub is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kuwabara is just riding it out for now. Schaub eventually gives up the hold.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
