The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Pearson misses the target.
Zuma is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Zuma fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pearson manages to avoid it.
Pearson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Pearson takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Pearson looks for the body kick but Zuma saw that one coming.
Zuma is looking to counter with head kicks.

Pearson moves into the clinch successfully.

Zuma manages to break the clinch.
Pearson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Pearson has taken the fight to the clinch.

Zuma escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Zuma closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Zuma is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Zuma landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Zuma throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Pearson to regain full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pearson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Zuma.
Zuma throwing strikes but missing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Zuma has gone for a leg lock! Pearson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Zuma's guard.

Zuma pushes a forearm under Pearson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Pearson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Monte Zuma!
In his post fight interview, Monte Zuma started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
Norman Pearson spoke after the fight, saying 'I knew I was better in the clinch so I did my best to get in that area and smash him. Obviously that gameplan didn't work. I will get back to camp and re-evaluate where we went wrong. Thank you all for coming out! '.
