Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Smirnov (ranked 4672 p4p, 502 weight class) and Daniel Son Karate (ranked 25554 p4p, 693 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Smirnov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Son Karate!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karate moves away from the strike by Smirnov.
Karate pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Smirnov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Karate was covering up waiting for the punch and Smirnov finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Smirnov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Smirnov seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Karate for as long as he can get away with.
Karate wants to stand but Smirnov is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Karate wants to get back to his feet but Smirnov is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Smirnov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Smirnov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Karate is looking to control Smirnov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Karate avoid being mounted?

Karate felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
