PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Bear (ranked 1355 p4p, 163 weight class) and John Wayne Gracie (ranked 1742 p4p, 195 weight class). Gracie has chosen Thriller by Michael Jackson as his entrance music. John Wayne Gracie will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Teddy Bear!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Wayne Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bear cracks a nice hook into Gracie's ribs.
Bear lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gracie at a distance.
Gracie is looking to slow Bear down with leg kicks.
Bear swinging wildly here.
Nice straight punches there by Gracie. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Gracie.
Bear swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Gracie counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bear shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Bear looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gracie dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Bear. That did some damage!
Gracie stuns Bear with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Bear takes a body punch but keeps moving.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Gracie - that will leave a mark!
Bear throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gracie's waist but Gracie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bear off to one side.
Gracie slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Gracie has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie throws a leg kick which misses Bear's front leg but catches the back leg as Bear tries to avoid it.
Gracie lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Gracie keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gracie connects with an inside leg kick.

Gracie dives in and scores a takedown into Bear's guard.
Bear wants to get back to his feet but Gracie passes into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bear wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
Bear keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bear knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie lands strikes from half guard.
Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bear blocking the ground and pound attempt from Gracie.
Bear might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bear is controlling Gracie's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gracie winds up and cracks Bear with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Bear is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bear wants to get back to his feet.
Gracie keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bear regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gracie.
Bear on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bear tries to get out of the position.
Gracie chips away with some ground and pound.
Gracie throws a big elbow that misses.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bear tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gracie stays in close to Bear's body and controls the position.
Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bear is trying to keep Gracie in close.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gracie avoids the body shot from Bear.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bear lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gracie circles away quickly and effectively.
Gracie misses with an attempted mid kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Gracie.
The fighters circle momentarily. Gracie darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gracie. Bear does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gracie throws a head kick that half lands.
Bear takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Bear finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gracie keeps Bear at a distance using the push kick.
Bear is breathing heavily.
That kick from Gracie tenderised Bear's leg. Bear is trying to keep his angry face on.
Bear takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Gracie delivers a nice body kick.
Bear throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range.
Gracie appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Wayne Gracie dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Gracie drops Bear with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Bear looks back up at him and smiles so Gracie waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Gracie scores with a push kick.
Gracie ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Bear out cold! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). John Wayne Gracie!
John Wayne Gracie is the new heavyweight champion!
A very excited looking John Wayne Gracie made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
The defeated Teddy Bear had this to say: 'Tonight wasn't my night, but i'll learn and come back stronger.'.
