Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Starker (ranked 1105 p4p, 47 weight class) and Carlos Ruas (ranked 981 p4p, 40 weight class). Starker comes to the cage accompanied by Catrin O'Neill - Ar Lan Y Mor. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Starker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Ruas!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Starker drops his hands momentarily and Ruas takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Starker tries to clinch there but Ruas circles away.
Starker walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A jab lands there for Ruas.

Starker moves into range and clinches up with Ruas.

Ruas drags the fight down to the ground.

Ruas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Ruas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ruas has a closed guard, preventing Starker from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Starker is looking to stand up but Ruas won't let him.
Ruas wants to sweep here but Starker controlling him for the moment.
Ruas lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ruas tries to free his leg and advance position but Starker is retaining full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ruas sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Starker's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ruas wants to free his trapped foot but Starker is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Ruas wants to take a breather but Starker is having none of it.
Ruas works his way into side control.
Ruas tries to advance to mount but can't.
Ruas has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Starker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruas on the ground.
Starker is squirming around, avoiding Ruas's attempts to control the action.
Ruas takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Starker is trying to stand back up.

Ruas has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Starker is defending well but eventually Ruas manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Starker has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Carlos Ruas!
An out of breath Carlos Ruas thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Paul Starker was interviewed post fight and said 'I`LL BE BACK@#$%!'.
