The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters circling a little - Cornell finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A chopping leg kick lands by Cornell.
Smith misses with a body shot.
Smith has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cornell finds it's way round the side to connect with Smith's head.
Cornell looks to land a left hand but Smith moved out of range nicely.
Cornell lands with a shot to the body.
Smith pivots, looking for a leg kick but Cornell is out of range and Smith settles back down.
Cornell connects with a body shot that sends Smith's belly button to the back.
Cornell paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

It looks like Awut Smith has been cut.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Cornell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Smith clinches with his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Smith breaks the clinch.
Smith misses with a body shot
and Cornell counters with a stiff right hand.
Smith chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Smith throws a poor cross that misses
and Cornell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith motions for Cornell to come forward. Smith throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Cornell throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Cornell.
Cornell scores with a spinning back kick!
Smith looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Smith throws a leg kick
and Cornell counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Smith thinking.
Smith throws a right hand that misses
and Cornell counters with a nice leg kick.
Smith looks winded!
Cornell wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Smith on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Cornell staying out of range there.
Cornell connects with a looping right hand.
Smith walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cornell throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Cornell scores with a punch to the head.
Awut Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith misses with a lunging right hand
and Cornell counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Smith thinking.
Cornell turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Cornell comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Smith moves out of range of the body kick.
Cornell scores with a kick to the midsection.
A good leg kick by Cornell.
Cornell with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Cornell thuds his shin into the meat of Smith's side.
Cornell looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Cornell throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Cornell throws a leg kick which misses Smith's front leg but catches the back leg as Smith tries to avoid it.
Cornell scores with a hook to the body. Smith takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Cornell lands a lovely overhand right.
Cornell fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Smith.
Cornell lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cornell closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Cornell lands a nice hook to Smith's body. Smith takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Smith moves forwards but Cornell connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Cornell - that will leave a mark!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Awut Smith's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Cornell throws a switch kick that catches Smith on the top of the head and drops him to the canvas! Smith looks hurt - I'm not sure he's going to get back up! The referee starts the count but calls it off at seven as Smith flops around on the canvas, clearly in no position to continue! This fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Tony Cornell!
