PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Murley (ranked 3152 p4p, 2323 weight class) and Rui Rodrigo Germano (ranked 371 p4p, 293 weight class). Germano has chosen HIM - Don't Fear The Reaper as his entrance music. Scott Murley has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Scott Murley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rui Rodrigo Germano!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.

Murley avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Germano throws a body shot but no joy.
It looked like Murley wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Donk. Murley catches Germano right on the button with a cross.

Germano throws a big shot that misses.
Germano throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Germano rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Murley moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Germano missing with a left hand there. Murley was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
It looked like Murley wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Germano throws a shot to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Germano. Murley does a little dance to reset his feet.
A little feinted left hand from Murley on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
A telegraphed right hand from Murley misses the target.

Germano takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Murley looks to land a left hand but Germano moved out of range nicely.
Germano takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Germano counters with a shoot takedown. Murley fights it but they end up in guard.
Murley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Germano passes Murley's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Germano lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Murley is concentrating on defense, preventing Germano from advancing position.
Germano wants to control but Murley is keeping him busy.

Germano looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Murley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Germano on the ground.

Murley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Germano wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Germano is staying tight to Murley's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Germano wants to control but Murley is keeping him busy.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Murley is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Murley seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Murley was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Murley pushes Germano back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Germano blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Murley scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Germano has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
A nice left hand lands by Germano.
Murley lands with a light punch inside.
Murley lands a shoulder strike.

Germano successfully pulls guard.
Germano bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Murley's guard.

Germano makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Germano looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Murley with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Rui Rodrigo Germano showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Germano is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Murley has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Germano finds it's way round the side to connect with Murley's head.

Murley went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Rui Rodrigo Germano is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Murley throws the left hand but Germano avoids the punch easily.

The crowd cheers as Murley lands an impressive looking overhand right. Germano doesn't seem phased though.
Murley's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Germano connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Murley scrambles back to his feet.

Murley throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Germano stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Germano swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Murley throws a hook but Germano avoids it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Scott Murley.
I think Germano has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
