PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frederick Zwirn (ranked 1449 p4p, 930 weight class) and Niek Mulder (ranked 169 p4p, 108 weight class). Mulder has chosen Lose yourself as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Niek Mulder enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Frederick Zwirn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Niek Mulder!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Nard Betker.

Zwirn gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
A right hook to the body lands for Zwirn.
Zwirn lands a body shot in the clinch.

It looks like Niek Mulder has been cut.
Zwirn throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Mulder has Zwirn pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Zwirn manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Zwirn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mulder circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mulder changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Mulder tries to keep at a distance but Zwirn has taken the fight into the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Zwirn manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Mulder is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Zwirn is trying to get back to his feet.

Zwirn tries to bench press Mulder off him but Mulder keeps the position.
Mulder has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like Mulder might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Mulder works to advance to full mount. Zwirn defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Zwirn tries to lock up and control but Mulder gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zwirn is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mulder takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Let's hope that Mulder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Zwirn looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Zwirn is bucking up trying to escape but Mulder cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Mulder is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Zwirn can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Zwirn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mulder on the ground.

Mulder tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Zwirn on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Zwirn tries to get out of the position.
Mulder avoids the attempt from Zwirn to control.
Zwirn wants to get back to his feet.
Mulder postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Zwirn looks a forlorn figure.

Mulder lands a big shot there that rocks Zwirn but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Oh Zwirn is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mulder fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Mulder lands a big elbow - Zwirn is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Zwirn is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Niek Mulder!
A pretty intense looking Niek Mulder took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
