PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jim O Neil (ranked 2002 p4p, 2387 weight class) and Batang Kock (ranked 218 p4p, 249 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim O Neil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Batang Kock!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.

Kock throws a chopping leg kick but O Neil manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
O Neil takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Kock darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
O Neil on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if O Neil tries to get out of the position.
Kock working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

O Neil is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Kock dives into side control.

O Neil pushes Kock away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kock gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
O Neil knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kock on the ground.

O Neil is pushing Kock's head away, looking to escape. Kock manages to hold on to the position though.
O Neil seems a little lost for a moment, as Kock dominates the positioning.

O Neil parries the strikes from Kock easily there. Kock is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable O Neil to escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Kock has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as O Neil is landing a low percentage of strikes.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

As Kock looks to move away, O Neil throws a big counter combo but Kock just gets out of the way.
We've been told by O Neil's head coaches at Dark Horse MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kock keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Kock thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on O Neil if he has to take too many more of those.

and Kock counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Batang Kock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
