PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Lessard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Milo Azyr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lessard's entrance music is ILS - Rigor Mortis. A fine choice. Azyr has chosen Anna Puu - C'est la vie as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lessard misses with a looping left.
Azyr is looking to clinch but Lessard is avoiding it.
Nice body kick there by Azyr.
Lessard tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lessard takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
A lazy body kick from Lessard
and Azyr counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Lessard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Azyr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lessard tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Azyr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lessard keeps working.
Azyr tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Azyr tries for a kimura but Lessard is defending well.
Lessard is trying to buck Azyr off.

Azyr swings around for an armbar but Lessard sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Azyr's guard.
Lessard stays in close to Azyr's body and controls the position.
Lessard would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Azyr is trying to control the position but Lessard postures up.

Lessard avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Azyr keeping full guard, as Lessard tries to pass.
Lessard sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Azyr's guard.
Azyr tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Still in half guard, Lessard seems content to control.
Lessard blocks the strikes from Azyr.

Lessard decides to stand and escape the position.
Azyr slips a jab from Lessard.
Azyr tries to clinch there but Lessard circles away.
Azyr wants to clinch up but Lessard keeps it at a distance.
Junior Lessard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lessard throws a body kick, spinning off balance
letting Azyr counter with a right hand.
Lessard misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Azyr.

Azyr instigates a clinch.

Lessard lands a knee to the head.
Lessard using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Azyr has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Lessard throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Azyrs head.

Lessard's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Azyr tries to stall but Lessard uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Still in the clinch, Lessard scores with a nice short uppercut.

Lessard lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

A close round but Milo Azyr will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Nice uppercut lands for Lessard. That snapped Azyr's head back.
Nice takedown defense from Lessard. No joy for Azyr on that attempt.
Lessard throws a hook to the side of Azyr's head but Azyr sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Azyr counters with a left to the body.
Lessard explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Lessard lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Azyr is looking to close the distance but Lessard sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Azyr crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Azyr is OK because that was naaaaaasty!
