PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Ovechkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kayaki Chonin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chonin has chosen Fedor Entrance Song as his entrance music. Kayaki Chonin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Alexander Ovechkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Kayaki Chonin!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ovechkin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A combination from Ovechkin does no damage.
Ovechkin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Chonin shoots in looking for a takedown. Ovechkin tries to sprawl out of it but Chonin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Ovechkin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ovechkin misses with a wild combination.
Ovechkin throws a shot from downtown. Chonin moves away and avoids it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Chonin.
Chonin scores with a jab to the body.
Alexander Ovechkin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ovechkin is breathing heavily.

Chonin closes the distance and pushes Ovechkin back into the ropes.

Chonin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Chonin moves in looking to clinch but Ovechkin pushes him off.
A head kick misses from Chonin.
Chonin throws a sloppy head kick and Ovechkin moves out of range easily.

and Chonin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Chonin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ovechkin can't keep his opponent in guard - Chonin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Chonin is trying to work for a kimura but Ovechkin is defending well.

Chonin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Chonin tries to stand but can't do so whilst Ovechkin controls his leg.

Ovechkin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Chonin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ovechkin wants to improve his position but Chonin is controlling well.
Ovechkin is not content to let Chonin control the position.
Ovechkin trying to hold on to Chonin's head to control him but Chonin postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Chonin scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chonin catches Ovechkin with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Chonin throws a head kick that misses.
A combination from Chonin does no damage.

and Chonin counters with a series of strikes. Ovechkin will be more careful next time no doubt.
Chonin lands a nice shot that snaps Ovechkin's head back.
Chonin throws a nice looking combination but Ovechkin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ovechkin takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Chonin lands with a hook. Ovechkin tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

and Chonin counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

and Chonin counters with a shoot takedown. Ovechkin fights it but they end up in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Chonin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Chonin wants to stand but Ovechkin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Chonin wants to control from the top but Ovechkin keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chonin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Chonin postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kayaki Chonin dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Chonin counters with a nice uppercut.
Chonin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Alexander Ovechkin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ovechkin slips a straight right by Chonin.
Ovechkin misses with a looping right.
Ovechkin wants to clinch
and Chonin counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Chonin lands with a cross.
Chonin throws a head kick that Ovechkin semi-blocks.

Chonin scores with a takedown into Ovechkin's guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ovechkin throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ovechkin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ovechkin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ovechkin throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Chonin stands and throws Ovechkin's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Chonin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ovechkin is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Chonin tries to advance to mount but Ovechkin instead regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chonin has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Ovechkin defend it? Chonin steps over the head and cranks it - Ovechkin is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Chonin!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kayaki Chonin!
