PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Krisp Enwah (ranked 2139 p4p, 2049 weight class) and Zimmer Zubov (ranked 307 p4p, 298 weight class). Zimmer Zubov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Krisp Enwah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zimmer Zubov!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Lou da Vinci and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zubov wants to clinch

and Enwah counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Enwah keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Zubov looks like he's trying to stand up.
Enwah trying to control the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zubov wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Enwah perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Zubov won't allow Enwah to pass to mount.
Enwah is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Enwah is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Zubov sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Zubov gets caught flat footed, as Enwah shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Enwah seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Enwah wants to stand but Zubov has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Enwah stays in close to Zubov's body and controls the position.

Zubov is trying to control the position but Enwah postures up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Zubov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Zubov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Enwah napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Enwah sneaks back into half guard.

Zubov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Enwah does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Zubov is looking to control Enwah's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zubov avoid being mounted?

Zubov trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Enwah manages to pass to mount!

Enwah throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Enwah slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

I really don't envy Zubov right now.
Zubov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Enwah keeps control of the position easily here as Zubov tries to buck him off.

Zubov is in bad spot here.
Zubov manages to reverse the position and now he's in Enwah's guard. Nice work there by Zubov.
Zubov postures up in Enwah's guard and throws a big left but Enwah blocks it.
Zubov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Enwah. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Enwah is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zubov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Enwah is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Enwah in particular looking to stall.
Enwah passes the guard and advances to mount!
Zubov is working to get back to half guard.

Enwah is looking to stand but Zubov has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Enwah leaves Zubov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Zubov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Enwah gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Enwah moves into full guard.
Enwah is pulling down on Zubov's head to control his posture.
Zubov throws an elbow that misses. Enwah uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Zubov's guard. Nice move by Enwah!

Enwah slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Enwah is pushing down on Zubov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Zubov is fighting to maintain full guard but Enwah has managed to sneak the leg through.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Enwah has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well, if Enwah is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Enwah wants to stand up but Zubov is controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Zubov or perhaps it was just good defense by Enwah, which made it look bad.
Enwah tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Zubov misses with a body kick.
As Zubov looks to move away, Enwah throws a big counter combo but Zubov just gets out of the way.

Zubov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Zubov moves in looking to clinch but Enwah pushes him off.
Enwah appears to be looking for a big counter.
Zubov dives in and grabs Enwah's left leg, looking for a takedown. Enwah pushes down on Zubov's head and hops out.
Enwah seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Krisp Enwah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zimmer Zubov.
Zubov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Zubov tries to close the distance and clinch but Enwah swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Enwah throws a quick counter kick to the body but Zubov avoids it.
Zubov shoots in but Enwah avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Enwah is trying to break the clinch but Zubov is controlling him.
Zubov is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Enwah is defending well for now.

Enwah closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Zubov's guard.
Enwah pushes down on Zubov's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Enwah content to control rather than advance.

Enwah passes to full mount!
Enwah takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Enwah unloads with some shots from mount but Zubov bucks and avoids them well.

Krisp Enwah overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Zubov is trying to control but Enwah manages to pass to mount!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Enwah seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zubov for as long as he can get away with.
Enwah's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Enwah is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zubov can do to turn this around?

Enwah is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Zubov has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Enwah throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Zubov because Enwah loaded up on that one.

Zubov holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Enwah tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Zubov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Enwah manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Enwah shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Enwah was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Enwah happy to just control the position for now.

Zubov is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell?
Enwah is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Zubov can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Zimmer Zubov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Enwah is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Zubov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Zubov for a finish.
