PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Asaki Minimoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerald Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gerald Lewis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Minimoto closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lewis wants to get back to his feet.
Lewis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Minimoto.
Minimoto is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Minimoto moves nicely into side control.
Minimoto has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Minimoto's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Lewis is trying to control Minimoto's posture but Minimoto avoids it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Lewis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Lewis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Minimoto is working away from the top position though.
Minimoto wants to take a breather but Lewis is having none of it.

Minimoto is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Lewis is in a horrible position here. Minimoto smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Minimoto cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Minimoto mounts Lewis! Really nice guard pass there!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Asaki Minimoto dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Lewis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Minimoto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Minimoto wants to finish this one by submission but Lewis is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Minimoto.

Lewis is just holding on here. Minimoto manages to take his back.

I really don't envy Lewis right now.

Minimoto has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Lewis has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Lewis wants to get back to his feet.
Minimoto keeps control of the position easily here as Lewis tries to buck him off.

Minimoto is working for a rear naked choke. Lewis is not defending it well and Minimoto has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Lewis refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Lewis's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
