The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Papi blocks a jab.

Papi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Laihei did well to prevent Papi getting side control.

Milo Papi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Papi dives in and grabs Laihei's left leg, looking for a takedown. Laihei pushes down on Papi's head and hops out.
Papi connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Laihei momentarily.

It looks like Chen Laihei has been cut.
Papi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Papi misses with a series of wild punches.
Papi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Laihei as he jumps to the side.

Papi fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Laihei throws a right and a left that Papi avoids nicely.

and Laihei counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Laihei wants to stand up but Papi has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Papi is trying to get back to full guard.

Laihei is breathing heavily.
Papi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Papi is nestled in close to Laihei, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Papi lands a nice short elbow.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Nice combo by Papi! Oh, that's hurt him - Laihei falls to the canvas and Papi follows him into side control.

Papi scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Laihei is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Papi can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
