PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jesper Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rush comes to the cage accompanied by Tom Sawyer - Rush. Harrison comes into a darkened arena with his song building. God's Gonna Cut You Down kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! William Harrison told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesper Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, William Harrison!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harrison shoots in for a takedown but Rush shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Harrison closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Rush manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Harrison had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rush is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Harrison Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rush's back instead.

Harrison seems to be working for a kimura but Rush defends the submission attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rush does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Jesper Rush has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Harrison.

Harrison shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rush but Rush pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Harrison throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rush's waist but Rush gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Harrison off to one side.
Rush feints and then cracks Harrison's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Harrison down.

Rush pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rush comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Rush throws a leg kick which misses Harrison's front leg but catches the back leg as Harrison tries to avoid it.

Rush throws a nice looking combination but Harrison bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Rush moves in looking to clinch but Harrison pushes him off.
Harrison shoots in for a takedown but Rush shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Rush's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Rush duly obliges.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Rush.
Rush pivots, looking for a leg kick but Harrison is out of range and Rush settles back down.
Harrison looks to land a right hand but Rush moved out of range.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rush's corner calls for a 1-2. Rush obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rush connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Harrison changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rush tries to avoid it but Harrison manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rush to the ground. Rush escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Harrison has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Rush.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rush, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
