The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Layfield feints and as Anderson raises his hands in defense, Layfield changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Layfield keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Anderson's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Anderson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Layfield drops back looking for a leg! Anderson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Anderson manages to kick Layfield off! Layfield jumps back into Anderson's guard.

Anderson jumps guard and drags Layfield to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Anderson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Layfield is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Anderson.

Layfield is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Anderson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Layfield wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Anderson, who protects the arm well.

Layfield uses his free foot to push down on Anderson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Anderson.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
