PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryder Irvine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Jenkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ryder Irvine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ricky Jenkins!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jenkins slips under a jab from Irvine.
Irvine throws a sloppy head kick and Jenkins moves out of range easily.
Irvine fails to land with a series of punches.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Irvine lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jenkins has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jenkins and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Irvine swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Jenkins closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jenkins lands in his opponent's guard.

Jenkins stands up and waves to Irvine to follow him.
Irvine lands a nice leg kick that just misses Jenkins's sensitive parts.

Jenkins clinches up against the cage.
Jenkins misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Irvine has had enough of the clinch but Jenkins keeps him there for the moment.
Jenkins has Irvine pressed against the cage, preventing Irvine from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Irvine is breathing heavily.
Jenkins is stalling here.

Irvine jumps into guard, dragging Jenkins to the mat.
Jenkins tries to free his leg and advance position but Irvine is retaining full guard.
Jenkins slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Jenkins stands up and waves to Irvine to follow him.
Jenkins scores with a nice head shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Irvine throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Jenkins moves into the clinch.
Irvine can't find room to land a body shot as Jenkins controls the action.

Jenkins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Jenkins shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jenkins showed some decent athleticism there.
Jenkins throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jenkins in particular looking to stall.

Jenkins gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Irvine misses with a low kick.
Jenkins moves in looking to clinch but Irvine pushes him off.
Irvine circles away from the clinch attempt.
Irvine stuffs the takedown.

Jenkins feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jenkins controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Jenkins stands and throws Irvine's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Jenkins slows the pace down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricky Jenkins dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Jenkins closes the distance and pushes Irvine back into the cage.

Jenkins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jenkins with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Irvine misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Jenkins drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jenkins wants to control from the top but Irvine keeps moving.

Jenkins drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jenkins jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jenkins seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Let's hope that Jenkins has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jenkins is pushing down on Irvine's leg trying to pass to half guard. Irvine is fighting to maintain full guard but Jenkins has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jenkins trying to mount his opponent but Irvine defends it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jenkins is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Jenkins trying to control from half guard but Irvine is working away.
Irvine is trying to stand.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jenkins lands a nice short elbow.

Jenkins decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jenkins is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Irvine's half guard.
Irvine wants to control the action here but instead Jenkins manages to pass to full mount!

Ricky Jenkins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Jenkins is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jenkins slips nicely into half guard.
Jenkins is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ricky Jenkins just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jenkins looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Jenkins is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Jenkins stands up from half guard.
Irvine works over Jenkins's head and body with a nice combination.

Jenkins has closed the distance and engaged Irvine in a clinch.
Jenkins tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jenkins blocks a body shot from Irvine.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Jenkins jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Irvine walks away with a smile on his face. Jenkins gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jenkins shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Irvine's guard.

Jenkins throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ryder Irvine has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jenkins is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Ricky Jenkins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jenkins lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Irvine hang on?

Ricky Jenkins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jenkins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
