The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Glass and James Ackerman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Karlsen is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Karlsen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Karlsen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.
Karlsen with a flurry of punches that miss.
Karlsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Karlsen advances to half guard.
Karlsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Karlsen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Karlsen's back!

Smith is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Karlsen up.

Karlsen breaks Smith's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith has his foot on Karlsen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Karlsen works his way back into a safe position though.

Karlsen cracks Smith with a big right hand but Smith just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Smith tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Karlsen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Karlsen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Smith is surviving well by controlling Karlsen's body position as best he can.
