PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fred Boyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Chapman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Fred Boyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Chapman!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chapman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Boyle shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boyle showed some decent athleticism there.
Boyle scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Boyle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chapman keeps working.
Chapman is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Boyle jumps into side control!

Boyle working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Boyle is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chapman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Boyle drops back looking for a leg! Chapman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chapman manages to kick Boyle off! Boyle jumps back into Chapman's guard.
Chapman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Boyle manages to get himself to full guard.

Chapman wants to control from the top but Boyle keeps moving.

Boyle had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Chapman defends it easily.
Chapman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Boyle wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Chapman won't allow Boyle to sweep him here.

Boyle goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chapman has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Boyle but great work by Chapman.

Chapman remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Boyle wants to hold on but Chapman pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Boyle throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Chapman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chapman lands in his opponent's guard.

Boyle is looking for a triangle but Chapman pushes his legs off easily.
Boyle can't keep his opponent in guard - Chapman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Boyle escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chapman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Chapman is pressing down on Boyle's thigh, looking to free his foot. Boyle is holding on for now.
Boyle wants to sweep but Chapman has passed to side control!
I wouldn't like to be where Boyle is right now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Chapman stuffs the takedown attempt from Boyle. Boyle gets slowly back to his feet.
Chapman doesn't manage to clinch there - Boyle circles away.
Chapman shoots and misses

and Boyle counters with a shoot takedown. Chapman fights it but they end up in guard.
Chapman pulls Boyle in close to his closed guard and prevents Boyle from doing any damage or advancing position.

Boyle drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chapman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Boyle has Chapman in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Fred Boyle will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Boyle counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Chapman's guard now.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chapman holds on and takes a little breather.
Chapman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Boyle drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Boyle jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Boyle drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chapman dives on top into guard.

Chapman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boyle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chapman has managed to get both his arms back between Boyle's legs - danger averted.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A slow jab from Boyle misses its intended target.
Chapman is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chapman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Boyle avoids it really well and circles away.
Fred Boyle is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Fred Boyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Chapman.
Chapman moves away from the strike by Boyle.
Boyle misses with an uppercut. Chapman saw that one coming.
Chapman avoids the body shot from Boyle.
Chris Chapman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boyle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Chris Chapman.
Well Boyle has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
