PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Belisle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Costa comes to the cage accompanied by Champion Sound by DJ Marky (Total Science RMX). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Steve Belisle enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steve Belisle!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belisle is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Costa throws a head kick but Belisle moves out of range.
Belisle throws a lazy head kick

and Costa counters with a shoot takedown. Belisle fights it but they end up in guard.
Belisle working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Costa.
Costa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Belisle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Costa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Costa throws and elbow that misses. Belisle uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Costa's guard. Nice move by Belisle!

Costa controls Belisle momentarily but Belisle frees himself.
Belisle looking to sit in guard and control but Costa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Costa throws a strike but Belisle rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Belisle wants to stand and escape but instead Costa has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Costa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Belisle is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Costa is controlling him.

Costa passes Belisle's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Costa not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Costa is keen to just control but Belisle is a slippery customer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Belisle.

and Costa counters with a shoot takedown. Belisle fights it but they end up in guard.

Costa wants to pass the guard but Belisle is keeping the position.

Belisle tries to clinch up

and Costa counters with a takedown into side control.
Costa cracks Belisle with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Costa lands an elbow.
Costa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Belisle keeps working.
Belisle parries the strikes from Costa easily there. Costa is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Belisle to escape.
Belisle tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Costa throwing strikes but Belisle bucks up and reverses the position. He's now in guard on top.

Costa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Costa tries to free his leg and advance position but Belisle is retaining full guard.

Costa postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Costa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Belisle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Belisle keeping moving, preventing Costa from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Belisle misses with a jab to the body

and Costa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Belisle wants to get back to his feet.
Costa scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Belisle looks like he's trying to stand up.
Costa throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Costa is trying to control the action in half guard but Belisle is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Costa wants to free his trapped foot but Belisle is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Costa wants to control from the top but Belisle keeps moving.
Steve Belisle has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Costa passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Costa throws an elbow but Belisle slips to the side and avoids it well.
Costa moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Belisle is letting Costa control him for a moment.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Carlos Costa just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Belisle throws a wild body kick that Costa sees coming a mile off.

and Costa connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

enabling Costa to counter with a crisp jab.
Belisle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Belisle lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Costa working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Costa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
