PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Alberto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Tony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alberto comes to the cage accompanied by Rap De Armas. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Carlos Alberto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Tony!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James Tony seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alberto feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Tony's calf.

Tony throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Alberto was covering up waiting for the punch and Tony finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Tony's corner calls for a 1-2. Tony obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Alberto chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tony can pounce on him.

Alberto is in a horrible position here. Tony smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Tony sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Tony is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Alberto to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Alberto shrugs it off.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Tony cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Alberto moves out of range of the strikes.
Tony cracks the inside of Alberto's front leg.
Alberto fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tony manages to avoid it.
James Tony seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tony thuds a left hand into Alberto's body.
Tony lands a jab to the nose.
Alberto throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tony lands a nice looking body shot.
Tony connects with a nice looking jab.
Alberto is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Tony looks for a takedown but Alberto sprawls well.
Alberto walks into a stiff left hand from Tony.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Tony lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Alberto has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Alberto and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Tony throws a leg kick which misses Alberto's front leg but catches the back leg as Alberto tries to avoid it.

Tony has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tony accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Tony thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tony lands with a hook. Alberto tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
A telegraphed right hand from Alberto misses the target.
A big left from Alberto misses.
Alberto pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Alberto drives through and clinches with Tony against the cage.
Tony is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Alberto is defending well for now.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Alberto looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Alberto stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Tony looks for a takedown but Alberto sprawls well.
Carlos Alberto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Tony.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tony, as that shot connected.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

James Tony showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Carlos Alberto.
I think Tony has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
