Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Avers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lentti Pindegren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Avers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lentti Pindegren!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pindegren looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Pindegren is pressing down on Avers's thigh, looking to free his foot. Avers is holding on for now.
Pindegren really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Avers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pindegren is controlling the pace.
Avers wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pindegren takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Avers is trying to control but can't.

Pindegren decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Avers gets caught flat footed, as Pindegren shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Avers trying to keep a closed guard but Pindegren is proving a slippery customer.

Avers wants to sweep here but Pindegren controlling him for the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pindegren stays in close to Avers's body and controls the position.
Pindegren trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Pindegren is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pindegren dives in and grabs Avers's left leg, looking for a takedown. Avers pushes down on Pindegren's head and hops out.

Pindegren decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Pindegren is looking for a kimura but Avers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pindegren to get the leverage.

Pindegren stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Avers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Avers utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Pindegren controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Avers looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Pindegren passes into side control.
Avers is breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Avers tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Pindegren stands up.
Pindegren misses with a takedown attempt - Avers sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Pindegren scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Pindegren stands up and beckons Avers to join him on the feet.

Pindegren shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Avers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Avers tries to reverse the position but Pindegren maintains control.

Pindegren goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Avers is on top in guard.

Pindegren seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Avers slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Avers working the ground and pound but Pindegren is defending the strikes.
You can see the frustration on Pindegren's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Pindegren is looking to regain half guard here but Avers keeps moving and retains side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Avers sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Pindegren is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Lentti Pindegren showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Avers shoots in looking for a takedown. Pindegren tries to sprawl out of it but Avers keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pindegren manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lentti Pindegren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pindegren fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Avers sprawls well initially but Pindegren persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Avers regains full guard. Nicely done.
Pindegren is stalling in the full guard.

Pindegren is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Avers sees it coming and defends easily.
Avers is looking for a sweep. Pindegren is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pindegren is looking to advance position but Avers won't allow it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Pindegren looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Avers tries to roll over but Pindegren keeps him under control.

Pindegren's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
