PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Lotus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piotr Kopacz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lotus might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Eye of the tiger. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of London, Tommy Lotus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Piotr Kopacz!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lotus throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The fighters circling - Kopacz throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Lotus misses with a two punch combination.
Lotus tries to bum rush Kopacz with a series of wild strikes but Kopacz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lotus avoids the head kick by Kopacz.
Lotus throws a series of punches but Kopacz moves out of range.
Lotus fails to land the takedown.
Kopacz falls off balance throwing a combination

and Lotus counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kopacz won't be happy with that.
Lotus tries to score with some ground and pound. Kopacz controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Kopacz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Lotus is just content to waste time from the top position. Kopacz takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Lotus tries to free his leg and advance position but Kopacz is retaining full guard.

Kopacz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kopacz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kopacz's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Kopacz is thwarting Lotus's attempts to control the position.

Kopacz is looking to take a break and control but Lotus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lotus is looking to control Kopacz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lotus avoid being mounted?
Lotus moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Kopacz prevents Lotus from getting back to his feet.

Lotus manages to escape and get back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lotus shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kopacz defends it nicely.
Kopacz lands a slapping body shot.
Lotus shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kopacz pinned against the cage. Kopacz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Lotus. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Kopacz cracks a nice hook into Lotus's ribs.
Lotus is breathing heavily.
Lotus swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kopacz lands with a hook. Lotus tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Lotus darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kopacz is looking for a sweep. Lotus is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A close round but Piotr Kopacz will probably get the nod.

Kopacz lands with a right hand.
Lotus throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kopacz tries a head kick but it misses.
Kopacz throws a head kick but Lotus moves out of range.
Kopacz misses with a wild combination.
Lotus throws a series of punches but Kopacz moves out of range.
Lotus shoots in looking for a takedown. Kopacz tries to sprawl out of it but Lotus keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kopacz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kopacz throws a head kick that misses.
Kopacz misses with a looping left.
Lotus has a takedown stuffed.
Kopacz throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kopacz throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lotus stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kopacz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lotus.
Lotus shoots in for a takedown but Kopacz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Kopacz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lotus moves away.
Kopacz pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Lotus is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lotus takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kopacz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kopacz digs a good hook to Lotus's body.
Piotr Kopacz seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Lotus with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kopacz to score with a decent uppercut.
Kopacz uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Kopacz misses with a double jab.
Kopacz throws a head kick but Lotus moves out of range.
Lotus throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Kopacz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Kopacz moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Kopacz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lotus moves forwards but Kopacz connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Kopacz scores with a nice right hand.
Lotus swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Horrible takedown by Lotus or perhaps it was just good defense by Kopacz which made him look bad.
Kopacz bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kopacz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lotus.

Piotr Kopacz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Lotus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kopacz wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Lotus is now in half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kopacz can do anything to dispel that myth.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Piotr Kopacz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Lotus looks to score with a jab to the body but Kopacz is just out of range.
Lotus tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kopacz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lotus somewhat.
Lotus fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kopacz avoids it really well and circles away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lotus wants to get up but he can't break Kopacz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Lotus wants to pass the guard but Kopacz is keeping the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kopacz fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I've got Kopacz winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
