PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kim Karlsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bai Sistjierten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karlsen comes to the cage accompanied by Home by BZ's. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Kim Karlsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Bai Sistjierten!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sistjierten rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Karlsen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Karlsen gets the takedown into side control.

Karlsen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sistjierten is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sistjierten is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Karlsen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Sistjierten is looking to reverse the position.
Sistjierten manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Karlsen wants to free his trapped foot but Sistjierten is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Sistjierten is looking to escape.
Sistjierten wants to stand back up but Karlsen manages to pass into side control.

Karlsen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sistjierten has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sistjierten is trying to get back to his feet.
Sistjierten takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Sistjierten is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Karlsen is controlling him well.
Karlsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Karlsen advances to mount.
Karlsen cracks Sistjierten with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Sistjierten wants to get back to his feet.

Karlsen goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sistjierten turns into him and now he's in Karlsen's guard.
Karlsen wants to sweep here but Sistjierten controlling him for the moment.
Karlsen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sistjierten is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Karlsen has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Karlsen is trying to get an arm triangle but Sistjierten is defending well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sistjierten sneaks back into half guard.
Karlsen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sistjierten!
Sistjierten is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Karlsen goes for an armbar but Sistjierten turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sistjierten.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Sistjierten shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Karlsen as he avoids it easily.
Sistjierten shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Karlsen sprawls well. Karlsen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sistjierten gets slowly back to his feet.

Karlsen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sistjierten is fending him off so far but Karlsen persists. Nope, Sistjierten circles away and we're back to standing.
Karlsen throws a right and a left that Sistjierten avoids nicely.
Karlsen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sistjierten looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Karlsen is fending him off so far but Sistjierten persists. Nope, Karlsen circles away and we're back to standing.
Sistjierten misses with a series of wild punches.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Karlsen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Karlsen lands in his opponent's guard.

Sistjierten scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Karlsen dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Sistjierten. That did some damage!
Karlsen shoots in but no luck this time.
Karlsen has a takedown stuffed.
Karlsen slaps away a takedown attempt from Sistjierten, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Karlsen misses with a takedown attempt - Sistjierten sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Karlsen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sistjierten tries to avoid it but Karlsen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sistjierten to the ground. Sistjierten escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Karlsen keeps the fight on the outside.
Sistjierten misses with a few strikes there.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sistjierten. Karlsen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sistjierten wants to clinch.
Sistjierten showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Karlsen.

Sistjierten swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Karlsen has a takedown stuffed.
Sistjierten fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sistjierten will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Karlsen shoots in but Sistjierten avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sistjierten throws a hook to the side of Karlsen's head but Karlsen sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Sistjierten swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sistjierten swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Karlsen.

Karlsen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Karlsen moves to take his opponent's back.

Karlsen is persistently looking for the submission but Sistjierten is defending it well.

The referee warns Sistjierten that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Sistjierten is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sistjierten is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Karlsen has taken his back.
Karlsen lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sistjierten manages to reverse the position and now he's in Karlsen's guard. Nice work there by Sistjierten.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Sistjierten looks to throw the jab but Karlsen is out of range.
Karlsen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sistjierten is looking to clinch but Karlsen is avoiding it.
Sistjierten misses with a two punch combination.

Sistjierten moves into the clinch.
Sistjierten lands with a light punch inside.
Karlsen blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Sistjierten manages to break the clinch.
Sistjierten lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Karlsen tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Karlsen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Karlsen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sistjierten's guard.
Sistjierten wants to improve his position but Karlsen is controlling well.

Karlsen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sistjierten tries to kick Karlsen off but Karlsen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Karlsen has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Sistjierten defend it? Karlsen steps over the head and cranks it - Sistjierten is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Karlsen!
