PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Doc Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gene A Mac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas's entrance music is Lunatic Fringe by Red Ryder. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Doc Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gene A Mac!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, John Roberts and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Thomas.
Thomas cracks Mac with an open hand slap.

Mac pushes Thomas up against the cage in a clinch.
Thomas misses with a punch on the inside.
Thomas has Mac pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mac manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Thomas lands a body punch.
Thomas wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Mac blocking some punches.

Mac tries to land knees in the clinch but Thomas avoids the damage to the body.
Thomas doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Mac keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Thomas's efforts to push away.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Thomas creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Thomas struggles to land a body shot inside as Mac controls his hands.

Mac has clasped his hands together around Thomas's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Thomas throws a right hand that Mac ducks under and follows up with a left that Mac also avoids with ease.
Thomas connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mac momentarily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mac stuffs the takedown.
Mac doesn't manage to clinch there - Thomas circles away.
Doc Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mac dodges the punch combination from Thomas.
Thomas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mac was well out of range. Poor timing from Thomas.

Mac moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

A telegraphed right hand from Thomas misses the target.

Mac takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Mac walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mac shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mac needs to keep his hands up - Thomas had a free shot at his head there.

Thomas drops Mac with a left right combo! Thomas follows him down to the ground into side control.


Mac is rocked!


It looks like Gene A Mac has been cut.
Mac parries the strikes from Thomas easily there. Thomas is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mac to escape.
Mac is still in real trouble! Can Thomas finish him?
Mac really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thomas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Thomas working the ground and pound but Mac is defending the strikes.
Thomas throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Mac seems to have recovered his senses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thomas throws a strike aimed at the side of Mac's head but Mac avoids it well.

Thomas is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mac is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Thomas sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mac defending well though.
Thomas misses with a head shot. Mac uses the momentum to regain guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mac looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Doc Thomas is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Doc Thomas showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Thomas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
