Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Hawkes.
Hawkes throws a front kick aimed at Minami's knee but Minami avoids it well.
Jonathan Hawkes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Minami moves out of range of the body kick.
Minami misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hawkes throws a body kick that misses.
Hawkes slips under a jab.
Hawkes throws a head kick but Minami moves out of range.
Hawkes is looking to clinch.
Hawkes looks to land a body kick but Minami moved away.
Minami circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hawkes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Minami paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hawkes connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Minami checks a low kick from Hawkes.
Hawkes throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Hawkes stuffs the takedown attempt from Minami. Minami gets slowly back to his feet.
Hawkes wants to slow Minami down by chopping away at his legs.
Hawkes throws a head kick but Minami moves out of range.
Hawkes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Minami throws a nice looking combination but Hawkes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Minami pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Minami throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hawkes misses with a looping left.
Hawkes takes a swing at Minami's ribcage but misses.
Hawkes showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Minami.
Minami moves out of range as Hawkes throws a body kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hawkes looks for the body kick but Minami saw that one coming.
Minami blocks a head kick by Hawkes.
Minami keeps the fight on the outside.
Minami lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hawkes backs up against the cage.
It looks like Jonathan Hawkes has been cut.
Minami lands a big head kick that sends Hawkes to the canvas! Minami follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ikki Minami!
