PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Craig David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David comes to the cage accompanied by Craig David - Rise and Fall. David has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Craig David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Ripper!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
David looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Ripper is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ripper looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? David is fending him off so far but Ripper persists. Nope, David circles away and we're back to standing.
Ripper throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
David misses with a takedown

and Ripper counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
David is breathing heavily.

David looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ripper sitting in guard here, content to control.
David is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ripper is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ripper trying to control the position from guard on top but David is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ripper is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
David keeping moving, preventing Ripper from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ripper with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ripper wants to control from the top but David keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ripper tries to free his leg and advance position but David is retaining full guard.
David keeping moving, preventing Ripper from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ripper misses with a wild body shot.

Ripper closes the distance and clinches.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ripper wants the takedown. David is fighting it off but Ripper persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in David's guard against the cage.
Ripper is stalling in the full guard.
Ripper wants to control from the top but David keeps moving.
Ripper is in close to David's body, working some short punches and elbows.
David has a closed guard, preventing Ripper from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ripper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. David swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ripper is pushing down on David's leg trying to pass to half guard. David is fighting to maintain full guard but Ripper has managed to sneak the leg through.
David has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ripper is working away from the top position though.
Ripper looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Ripper dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Craig David's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ripper throws a series of strikes that have David backpedaling.
David defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ripper.

Ripper closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ripper manages to break the clinch.
Ripper jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ripper looks for a takedown but David sprawls well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
David swats away the attempt to clinch by Ripper.
Ripper gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and David decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ripper's guard.
Craig David has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Ripper.

Ripper controlling David's posture.
David connects with a couple of short punches.
Ripper tries to land a sweep but no joy.
David might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
David is looking to work some ground and pound but Ripper has wrist control.
David wants to pass the guard but Ripper is keeping the position.

Ripper is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
David with a flurry of punches that miss.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
David loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ripper looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ripper misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ripper wants to clinch.

David feints and as Ripper raises his hands in defense, David changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ripper keeping full guard, as David tries to pass.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
David trying to control the position from guard on top but Ripper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ripper is on top in guard.
Ripper trying to control but David is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ripper gets to his feet. David looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
David fails with a takedown attempt.

Ripper closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ripper lands in his opponent's guard.
David throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Craig David will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Ripper shoots in for a double leg but David sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Ripper shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Ripper stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Nice takedown defense from David. No joy for Ripper on that attempt.

Ripper gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
David preventing the sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
David is working Ripper over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Ripper is controlling David's posture.
David wants to control from the top but Ripper keeps moving.
Ripper has momentary wrist control but David slips an elbow through the middle.
David wants to pass the guard but Ripper is keeping the position.
Ripper looking to control.
David postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
David trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ripper keeping moving, preventing David from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ripper fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with David, pushing him back against the cage.
David tries to pull guard but Ripper won't allow it.
Ripper's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
David drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ripper escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Ripper feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ripper wants to control from the top but David keeps moving.

David had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ripper defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
David throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

David working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ripper doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ripper manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

David working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Ripper has passed into half guard!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
David tries to get to full guard but Ripper has control of the leg.
Ripper uses his free foot to push down on David's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for David.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Ripper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ripper has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
