PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between River Walken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gorge Jurgel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Walken might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Flim Star by Suede. Jurgel has chosen Rock N Roll Train as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, River Walken!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gorge Jurgel!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jurgel fails with a takedown attempt.
Jurgel moves out of range as Walken throws a body kick.
Gorge Jurgel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walken thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Jurgel if he has to take too many more of those.
Jurgel misses with a takedown attempt - Walken sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

so Jurgel counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Jurgel drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Walken manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jurgel has Walken in his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jurgel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jurgel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Walken is one step ahead there.
Walken will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Walken is really struggling to control Jurgel but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jurgel is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Walken.

Walken uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jurgel.

Jurgel throws a hook but Walken avoids it easily.

Walken shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Jurgel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Walken pulls his head out easily.
Jurgel is looking to get back to full guard here but Walken has managed to pass to side control instead.
Jurgel is looking to improve his position but Walken isn't that keen on the idea.

Walken misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Jurgel is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jurgel tries to control Walken's body but Walken pushes him off. Jurgel squirms to his side and now Walken has his back!

Walken really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jurgel might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Walken kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jurgel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jurgel wants it to stay on the feet.

and Jurgel counters with a single leg into guard. Walken didn't expect that.

Jurgel lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Walken is defending against the submission attempts here by Jurgel.
Jurgel looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Walken with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jurgel is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Walken still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Walken has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Walken has his foot on Jurgel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jurgel works his way back into a safe position though.

Jurgel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Walken gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jurgel is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Jurgel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Walken doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Walken manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Walken got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jurgel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Walken has managed to get both his arms back between Jurgel's legs - danger averted.

Walken takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Jurgel walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Walken checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Jurgel might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Walken shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Walken was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
