PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kayaki Chonin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chonin comes to the cage accompanied by The End is Near. Rios has chosen Insane in the Membrane as his entrance music. Rodrigo Rios has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kayaki Chonin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Rios!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chonin is looking to chop away at Rios's legs.
Chonin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rios but Rios pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rios should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Rios shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Oh Chonin is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they both work up against the meshing.
Chonin is trying to reverse the position but instead Rios has taken his back - oops!
Chonin seems to have got his legs back now.
I really don't envy Chonin right now.
Rios is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Rios is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Chonin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's time! Chonin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Rios moves into the clinch successfully.
Chonin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rios content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Chonin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rios smiles and moves away.
No joy there for Rios, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rios is looking to land body kicks.
Chonin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kayaki Chonin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rios is looking to clinch but Chonin is avoiding it.
Chonin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rios has closed the distance and engaged Chonin in a clinch.
Chonin wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Chonin jumps guard but Rios stands there with Chonin around his waist. Chonin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rios keeps control of Chonin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Rios manages to break the clinch.
Rios dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Chonin. That did some damage!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chonin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Rios fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Chonin, pushing him back against the cage.
Chonin is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Chonin jumps guard but Rios stands there with Chonin around his waist. Chonin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Rios escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rios content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Rios lands with a punch from half guard.

Chonin is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Rios pulls his head out easily.
Chonin tries to get to full guard but Rios has control of the leg.

Chonin tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Rios has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Rios landing strikes from the mount and Chonin is in trouble!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

A jab-cross combination lands for Rios and sends Chonin crashing to the mat! Rios follows him down to the mat - Chonin regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

Chonin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rios is just riding it out for now. Chonin eventually gives up the hold.
