And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Jones!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
St Pierre misses with a jab, cross combination.
Lance St Pierre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
St Pierre jabbing away but nothing is landing.
St Pierre cracks Jones with an open hand slap.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jones.
St Pierre gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

St Pierre actively working from the bottom here.
St Pierre avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jones.
Jones tries to stand and escape but St Pierre is controlling the position.
St Pierre moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

St Pierre is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

St Pierre looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.
St Pierre is breathing heavily.
Jones controls from within his opponent's guard.

Jones preventing the sweep.

St Pierre is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jones lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Jones slips under a jab.
St Pierre fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jones rushes St Pierre and presses him up against the cage.

Jones has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics St Pierre uses from the top position.

St Pierre avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

St Pierre is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jones is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jones has escaped and now he's on top!
Jones wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving.

Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones tries to stand but St Pierre is controlling from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
St Pierre manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

St Pierre is working for a guillotine from mount but Jones frees his head quite easily.
Jones working to try and regain half guard.

St Pierre jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jones is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jones and St Pierre has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Jones is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but St Pierre has just dragged him back down to the mat.
St Pierre wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
Jones misses with a strike from the bottom.
St Pierre is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jones regains half guard.
Jones is trying to maintain the position but St Pierre is very close to passing his half guard.
St Pierre trying to mount his opponent but Jones defends it.
Jones is looking to control St Pierre's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jones avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Good exchange - Jones coming out on top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. St Pierre tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag St Pierre to the ground. St Pierre escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fighters circle momentarily. St Pierre darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.
Jones fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jones throws a head kick that misses.

St Pierre scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jones is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked St Pierre off and has taken his back!

Jones sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! St Pierre taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mike Jones!
