Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alex Houdini (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and D J Rich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Houdini!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, D J Rich!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Houdini shoots in and drives through. Rich sprawls well.
Rich keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Some wild striking there from Rich.
Houdini tries for a takedown but Rich sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Houdini. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Houdini tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rich sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Houdini somewhat.

Rich moves into range and clinches up with Houdini.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rich gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Houdini.

Rich breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Houdini shoots in for a double leg but Rich sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rich moves out of range as Houdini strikes.

Houdini shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rich manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Rich is looking to stand up but Houdini isn't so interested in that idea.
Rich is looking to stand back up but Houdini counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Rich.
Rich has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Houdini is working away from the top position though.

Rich is defending against the submission attempts here by Houdini.
Houdini prevents Rich from standing back up.
Rich is looking to control Houdini's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rich avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rich works his way to full guard. Good work.

Houdini postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rich is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Houdini, into his guard.

Rich wants to stand but Houdini has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rich tries to free his leg and advance position but Houdini is retaining full guard.

Houdini has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rich can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Houdini has his foot on Rich's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rich works his way back into a safe position though.
Rich must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Houdini looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Houdini keeping moving, preventing Rich from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Houdini has a closed guard, preventing Rich from standing up.

Houdini working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rich manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Houdini has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rich can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A close round but D J Rich will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Rich drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by D J Rich.
Rich just misses with a punch to the body.
Rich rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Houdini moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Houdini doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rich counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Rich has closed the distance and engaged Houdini in a clinch.
Houdini can't get the takedown.

Houdini fails to pull guard.

Houdini circles away from the clinch attempt.

Rich is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Houdini's half guard.

Rich looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Houdini looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Houdini is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rich postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Houdini to stand up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rich decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Houdini, up you get!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rich is looking to clinch but Houdini is avoiding it.

Rich looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Houdini!
Houdini is looking to get to half guard.
Rich controlling his opponent.

Rich's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Rich trying to control but Houdini is having none of it.
Houdini tries to get back to half guard but can't.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rich takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Houdini is trying desperately to improve position.
Rich content just to control the position here.
Houdini is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

D J Rich showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Houdini doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Rich seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Houdini is not content to let Rich control the position.
Houdini tries to get to full guard but Rich has control of the leg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Houdini misses with a takedown attempt
and Rich counters with a right hand to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rich punishes Houdini's body with a nice straight punch.
Rich dodges the punch combination from Houdini.
Rich tries to clinch up but Houdini circles away and keeps his distance.
Alex Houdini has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rich tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Houdini paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Rich counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Rich connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Rich works the jab nicely.

Rich feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Houdini looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rich stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Rich scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Rich happy to just control the position for now.
D J Rich has got the better of the ground game so far.
Houdini tries to buck Rich off but Rich is having none of it.

Rich decides to stand back up. Rich steps back and let's Houdini get back to his feet.
Alex Houdini is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Rich, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rich works the jab nicely.

Houdini shoots in and bounces Rich off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rich tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Rich wants to stand and escape but Houdini is having none of it.

Houdini pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rich is keeping the position for now.

Houdini drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Houdini as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Rich screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Houdini! Nice submission victory there!
