PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sean Rodey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodey comes to the cage accompanied by none. Chase has chosen All the Above - Maino as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Rodey!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Chase!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodey looks to score with a jab to the body but Chase is just out of range.
Chase looks for a takedown but Rodey sprawls well.
Rodey lets loose with a powerful body kick. Chase will feel that in the morning.
Chase tries for a takedown but Rodey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rodey fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Chase misses with a takedown attempt - Rodey sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sean Rodey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Chase.

Rodey moves into the clinch successfully.
Chase blocks an elbow strike.
Rodey lands a knee to the body.
Chase looks gassed!

Rodey breaks the clinch.
Rodey scores with a spinning back kick!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rodey cracks Chase with a big right hand and Chase goes down!


Chase is rocked!

Chase escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rodey gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Chase is still in real trouble! Can Rodey finish him?
Rodey preventing the sweep.
Chase seems to have recovered his senses.
Rodey looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rodey wants to control from the top but Chase keeps moving.

Chase throws his legs up looking for a submission but Rodey uses it to pass to side control.
Chase is trying to escape the position but Rodey is controlling the position.
Chase tries to bench press Rodey off him but Rodey keeps the position.
Chase is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rodey misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Chase.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Rodey, right into the meat.

Rodey drives through and clinches with Chase against the cage.
Chase drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rodey pulls his leg out and moves away.

Rodey rushes Chase and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Chase has Rodey pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rodey manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Rodey gets underhooks to prevent Chase's takedown attempt.
Chase goes for a takedown attempt but Rodey pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Rodey gets a clinch.

Chase has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rodey is trying to keep an underhook but Chase manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Chase is trying to work for a kimura but Rodey is defending well.
Rodey controlling the position well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chase trying to pass the guard but Rodey defending well.

Chase seems to be working for a kimura but Rodey defends the submission attempt.

Rodey is defending against the submission attempts here by Chase.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chase is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Rodey has managed to free his arm - good work.
Rodey regains full guard. Nicely done.

Chase thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Chase is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Chase slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Chase looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Chase tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Chase wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rodey, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chase working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Rodey dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Chase tries for a takedown but Rodey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
John Chase seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rodey stuffs the takedown attempt from Chase. Chase gets slowly back to his feet.
Rodey throws a nice outside leg kick.
Chase circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rodey doesn't manage to clinch there - Chase circles away.
Chase chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rodey can pounce on him.
Chase fails to land the takedown.
Sean Rodey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Chase.

Chase closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rodey to the mat! Rodey manages to get full guard.
Rodey pulls Chase in close to his closed guard and prevents Chase from doing any damage or advancing position.
Chase wants to pass the guard but Rodey is keeping the position.
Rodey has Chase pulled in close to control his posture.
Chase is pushing down on Rodey's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rodey is fighting to maintain full guard but Chase has managed to sneak the leg through.

Chase is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Rodey has managed to free his arm - good work.

Chase works his foot free and advances to mount.
Rodey wants to control but Chase is having none of it.
Chase pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Chase goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rodey is on top in guard.
Chase is breathing heavily.
Rodey sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Rodey's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Chase looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Chase looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rodey has picked Chase up and slammed him! Chase can't keep hold of the triangle and Rodey manages to pass to side control!
Rodey passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Chase!
Chase working to try and regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rodey controlling from the full mount.
Chase tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Chase gets back to half guard.
Rodey is controlling the pace.

Chase looking for submissions off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Chase wants to get back to full guard.

Chase looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Chase is looking to improve his position.

Chase actively working from the bottom here.
Chase wants to improve his position but Rodey is controlling well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rodey closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Rodey tries to break the clinch but Chase is controlling the position.
Rodey prevents a takedown attempt there.
Chase has Rodey pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rodey manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sean Rodey will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Rodey is pulling down on Chase's head. It's preventing any offense from Chase, at least for the moment.
Rodey can't keep his opponent in guard - Chase advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Rodey is looking for a sweep. Chase is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Chase is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Chase seems to be working for a kimura but Rodey defends the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chase trying to mount his opponent but Rodey defends it.
Rodey slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Rodey wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rodey has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Chase looking to pass the guard.

Chase drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Chase as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Rodey screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Chase! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). John Chase!
