Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Phi Cho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phi Cho could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jose Cortez's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Phi Cho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Cortez!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cho fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cortez sprawls well initially but Cho persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Cho stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
No joy there for Cortez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Cho throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cortez was covering up waiting for the punch and Cho finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Cho controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Cho stays in close to Cortez's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Cho instigates a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cortez tries for a takedown. No joy.

Cho tightens his grip and picks Cortez up, before dumping him to the ground. Cortez manages to land in guard.
Cho loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Cho tries to free his leg and advance position but Cortez is retaining full guard.
Cortez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cho controls the pace.
Cho might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Phi Cho just wasn't active enough.

Cho shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Cho wants to pass the guard but Cortez is keeping the position.
Cortez is trying to keep Cho in close.
Cortez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Cortez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cho controls the pace.
Cortez has a closed guard, preventing Cho from standing up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cortez is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cho.

Cho gets the takedown into side control.
Cortez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Cho trying to control the action but Cortez is working from the bottom.
Cortez is trying to control Cho's posture but Cho avoids it.
Cho lands a decent elbow from side control.
Cortez struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cho in side control lands a decent elbow.
Cortez wants to control but Cho postures up.
Cortez is looking for a sweep.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cortez struggling a bit here.
Cho is staying tight to Cortez's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Cho seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cortez for as long as he can get away with.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We're going to have a standup here because Phi Cho wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cho connects with a looping right hand.
Cho is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cortez.
Nice uppercut there from Cho.

Cho lands a left and a right that send Cortez crashing to the mat, dazed. Cho thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phi Cho dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cho connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Cortez tumbling to the canvas! Cho pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Cortez was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Phi Cho!
