PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danik Babuckiy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tommy Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Danik Babuckiy!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Babuckiy moves into the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Babuckiy successfully pulls guard.
Duke stopping the sweep attempt from Babuckiy.

Babuckiy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Duke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Duke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Duke has gone for a leg lock! Babuckiy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Duke's guard.

Duke had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Babuckiy defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Babuckiy stands and steps away. Duke gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Babuckiy shoots for a double leg takedown but Duke sprawls well. He's pushed Babuckiy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Duke moves in looking to clinch but Babuckiy pushes him off.

Tommy Duke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danik Babuckiy.

Duke stalks Babuckiy and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Babuckiy's face. Babuckiy staggers backwards, shaken.

Duke doesn't manage to clinch there - Babuckiy circles away.
Duke scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Duke shoots in for a takedown but Babuckiy shows good takedown defense.
Horrible takedown by Babuckiy or perhaps it was just good defense by Duke which made him look bad.

Duke throws a nice looking combination but Babuckiy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Babuckiy forces Duke back against the cage and clinches.
Duke misses with the head strike.
Duke wants to stall.
Duke prevents the takedown attempt.
Duke is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Duke sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Babuckiy's guard.

Duke slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Duke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Babuckiy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tommy Duke will probably get the nod.

Babuckiy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Duke.
Duke lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Babuckiy circles away quickly and effectively.

Duke rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Babuckiy moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Babuckiy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Duke is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Babuckiy's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Babuckiy wants to stand but Duke has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Babuckiy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
