Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Elkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesper Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Elkins's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Care Bear Countdown. Rush comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Tom Sawyer - Rush kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dwight Elkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jesper Rush!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Elkins checks a leg kick.
Rush throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Elkins on the side of the head.
Elkins misses with a leg kick.
That kick from Elkins tenderised Rush's leg. Rush is trying to keep his angry face on.
Rush scores with a three punch combo!
A low kick from Rush is predictable there
and Elkins counters with a head kick.
Rush avoids a kick to the body.
Elkins keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rush fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Elkins manages to avoid it.
Rush misses the body punch
and Elkins counters with a nice body kick.
Rush keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Elkins swats away the attempt to clinch by Rush.
Rush motions for Elkins to come forward. Rush throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Elkins shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rush defends it nicely.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Elkins.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Elkins ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Elkins misses with an uppercut.
Elkins uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rush.
Rush moves out of range of the body kick.
Good leg kick by Elkins there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Rush loads up on a big right hand but Elkins slips the punch.
Elkins just misses with a punch to the body.
Elkins fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dwight Elkins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Elkins is looking to chop away at Rush's legs.

Elkins shoots in for a takedown but Rush shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Rush pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Rush throws a series of strikes that have Elkins backpedaling.
Elkins swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Rush.
Elkins tried to score with a low kick but Rush checks it.
Elkins shoots for a double leg takedown but Rush sprawls well. He's pushed Elkins's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Rush counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Rush is just content to waste time from the top position. Elkins takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rush looking to sit in guard and control but Elkins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Elkins wants to control from the top but Rush keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rush is trying to control the position from the bottom.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Elkins throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Rush counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Elkins throws a leg kick which misses Rush's front leg but catches the back leg as Rush tries to avoid it.
Rush misses with an uppercut. Elkins saw that one coming.
Rush feints and then cracks Elkins's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Elkins down.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Elkins, right into the meat.
Elkins blocks a jab.
Elkins looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

A head kick misses from Elkins.

Rush tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Elkins was well out of range. Poor timing from Rush.
Elkins throws a sloppy head kick and Rush moves out of range easily.
Rush shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Elkins counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Rush is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Elkins throwing strikes but missing.
Rush is trying to keep Elkins in close.

Rush keeping moving, preventing Elkins from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Elkins throws a head kick that half lands.
A low kick from Rush is predictable there
and Elkins counters with a right hand to the body.
Rush misses with a straight left.
Rush takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Elkins shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Elkins closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rush quickly recovers to half guard.
Rush is trying to maintain the position but Elkins is very close to passing his half guard.
Elkins missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Elkins looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Elkins not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Rush is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Rush is refusing to be controlled, as Elkins sits in half guard.
Elkins is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rush is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Still in half guard, Elkins seems content to control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dwight Elkins wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Elkins bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Elkins lands with a shot to the body.

and Rush counters with a body kick that stops Elkins in his tracks momentarily.

Elkins feints and as Rush raises his hands in defense, Elkins changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Rush looking to hit a scissor sweep but Elkins is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dwight Elkins dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Rush is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Elkins shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Elkins content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Rush is staying active underneath Elkins, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rush is looking for a sweep. Elkins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Elkins throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Elkins passes into side control, despite Rush's attempt to control the position.
Elkins throws a strike aimed at the side of Rush's head but Rush avoids it well.
Elkins lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Rush is not content to let Elkins control the position.
Dwight Elkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

You can see the frustration on Rush's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Elkins grinds an elbow into Rush's temple.
Elkins trying to control the action but Rush is working from the bottom.

Elkins thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Elkins lands a decent elbow from side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Rush is trying to control Elkins's posture but Elkins avoids it.
Elkins looks up at the clock and then as Rush takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Elkins smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
