PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Renato Cardoso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor Culver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cardoso kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Samba de Janeiro. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Renato Cardoso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trevor Culver!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cardoso pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cardoso moves out of range as Culver strikes.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Culver misses with an uppercut.
Cardoso looks for a takedown but Culver sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cardoso tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Culver paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Culver throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cardoso stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Cardoso could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cardoso is looking to clinch but Culver is avoiding it.
Cardoso tries to clinch there but Culver circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A swing and a miss from Culver.
No luck for Cardoso with that takedown attempt.
Culver throws the left hand but Cardoso avoids the punch easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cardoso staying out of range there.
Culver circles away from the clinch attempt.
Culver moves out of range as Cardoso throws a body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Culver throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Culver leaves Cardoso with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renato Cardoso. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cardoso tries to score a power double leg takedown but Culver sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cardoso somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trevor Culver dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Culver takes a swing at Cardoso's ribcage but misses.
Renato Cardoso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cardoso shoots in for a takedown but Culver shows good takedown defense.

Cardoso wants to clinch up but Culver keeps it at a distance.
Culver tries to work over Cardoso's front leg with a kick but Cardoso checks it.
Culver stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Culver wants it to stay on the feet.
Cardoso doesn't manage to clinch there - Culver circles away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Culver keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.


It looks like Renato Cardoso has been cut.
Good work by Cardoso as he checks the leg kick.
Cardoso slips a jab and a cross from Culver.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Culver misses with an uppercut. Cardoso saw that one coming.
Cardoso fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renato Cardoso. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cardoso tries to close the distance and clinch but Culver swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Culver misses with a series of wild punches.
Cardoso tries to close the distance and clinch up but Culver swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Culver looks to land a right hand but Cardoso moved out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trevor Culver showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Renato Cardoso's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Cardoso tries to clinch up but Culver circles away and keeps his distance.
Culver keeps the fight on the outside.
Culver circles away from the clinch attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cardoso keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Culver.
Trevor Culver is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Cardoso slips under a jab.
Culver is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cardoso.
Horrible takedown by Cardoso or perhaps it was just good defense by Culver which made him look bad.
Cardoso fails with a takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Culver missing with a left hand there. Cardoso was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Culver misses with a straight right.
Cardoso throws out a leg kick but Culver moves out of range and Cardoso only half commits.
Culver fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Renato Cardoso has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Culver throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Culver sizes up Cardoso with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Culver sends Cardoso crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Culver is motioning to the referee to let Cardoso up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Culver throws a big shot that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Trevor Culver comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Culver has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
