PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Sheilds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is X is Coming. Sheilds has chosen Scars - Papa Roach as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva with a lazy takedown attempt
and Sheilds counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Silva throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sheilds tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Silva is in Sheilds's guard.

Silva passes Sheilds's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sheilds keeps working.

Silva is working for a kimura but Sheilds is defending it quite comfortably.

Sheilds is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sheilds avoid being mounted?

Silva is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sheilds doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silva.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sheilds manages to get to full guard.
Silva stays in close to Sheilds's body and controls the position.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Sheilds is keeping the position.

Sheilds is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Silva is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Silva stops Sheilds from standing up.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Silva fails with the takedown
and Sheilds counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Sheilds takes a swing at Silva's ribcage but misses.
Sheilds scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Sheilds throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sheilds fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Silva, pushing him back against the cage.
Sheilds doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sheilds lands a body shot in the clinch.
Sheilds scores with a shoulder strike.

A close round but Mike Sheilds will probably get the nod.

Silva closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sheilds quickly recovers to half guard.
Sheilds wants to get back to his feet.

Silva is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sheilds wants to control but Silva is keeping busy.
Sheilds is trying to stand up here but Silva is controlling him well.
Sheilds has a hand on Silva's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Silva takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Silva moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Sheilds has worked his arm free - good work by Sheilds!

Sheilds is not content to let Silva control the position.

Silva has an Americana. Sheilds didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Silva is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Silva hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
