PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grigori Rasputin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Lavronenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rasputin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Turisas - Rasputin. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Grigori Rasputin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Lavronenko!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Lavronenko.
Lavronenko fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lavronenko fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rasputin avoids it really well and circles away.
Lavronenko shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Rasputin connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Lavronenko's hands.
Lavronenko moves out of range of the strikes.
Rasputin misses with a low kick as Lavronenko jumps back.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lavronenko avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

and Lavronenko counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Lavronenko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rasputin is fending him off so far but Lavronenko persists. Nope, Rasputin circles away and we're back to standing.
Grigori Rasputin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Lavronenko.

and Lavronenko decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rasputin's guard.

Rasputin has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Lavronenko off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rasputin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lavronenko stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Lavronenko throws a right hand that Rasputin ducks under and follows up with a left that Rasputin also avoids with ease.

Rasputin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Lavronenko moves in looking to clinch but Rasputin pushes him off.
Lavronenko throws a series of punches but Rasputin avoids them all with ease.

Lavronenko tries to close the distance and clinch but Rasputin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rasputin clobbers Lavronenko with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

You get the feeling that Rasputin really doesn't like being in this position too much.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Rasputin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lavronenko on the ground.

Lavronenko can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rasputin is looking to escape.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
You get the feeling that Rasputin really doesn't like being in this position too much.

That was a close round but I would say that Grigori Rasputin will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rasputin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lavronenko lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Rasputin is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Rasputin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Rasputin gets tackled into the cage by Lavronenko. Lavronenko maintains the clinch.

Rasputin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lavronenko stalks Rasputin and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rasputin's face. Rasputin staggers backwards, shaken.

and Lavronenko counters by moving into the clinch.

Lavronenko misses with a series of wild punches.
Rasputin bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Rasputin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Lavronenko.

Lavronenko shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Lavronenko is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rasputin is just riding it out for now. Lavronenko eventually gives up the hold.

Ivan Lavronenko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
